We will also ensure that you’re aware of all the military funeral honors and benefits for which your loved one is entitled, as well as make the appropriate requests and arrangements on your behalf, including:

  • Completing applications for any eligible veterans’ benefits, including military honors ceremonies, Presidential Memorial Certificate and veteran memorial marker or headstone
  • Making sure that the paperwork required to request military honors is properly completed and submitted
  • Working with any local (or national) cemeteries

How Is Eligibility Determined?

Honorably discharged veterans of the armed forces are normally entitled to certain funeral service honors performed by an honor guard, along with certain veterans’ burial benefits.

Here’s a partial list of those who may be may be eligible:

  • Military members on active duty or in the Selected Reserve
  • Former military members who served on active duty and departed under conditions other than dishonorable
  • Former military members who completed at least one term of enlistment or period of initial obligated service in the Selected Reserve and departed under conditions other than dishonorable
  • Former military members discharged from the Selected Reserve due to a disability incurred or aggravated in the line of duty.

Sometimes there are questions about eligibility or protocols that must be followed.
